About the event
This webinar will describe product liability from the engineering perspective, with examples. The purpose is to help engineers understand what types of liability exist and how to improve their practice to avoid them. Product liability is relevant to several types of engineering professional practitioners: (1) Engineers offering consultancy services, where the client relies on the engineer’s judgement to ensure the technical system works as intended; (2) Product design engineers who have to anticipate reasonably foreseeable misuse of the product and the potential injuries that may result; (3) Production engineers in manufacturing and construction who have to ensure that quality defects do not escape into the user environment where they may cause harm. In this context “harm” includes biophysical injury, and economic loss (including losses from inability to use the product).
